Annual Dinner

Tianhe Park Center

This past week, I have been getting ready for our annual dinner, which was on the 15th and now that it’s over and I am on holiday for Lunar New Year, I am have found time to write about it.

I was so happy to find out about this event. I love any reason to dress up. I started looking for dresses on TaoBao (China’s Version of Amazon). I found a beautiful dress for ¥90… I looked at the sizing chart, took my measurements and chose the appropriate size. In all honesty, I was expecting it to be too small, but it was way too big. I spent my Tuesday night taking in inches of my dress. I think I did a pretty good job, especially since I didn’t use a sewing machine.

To compensate for my dress being too big, my shoes ended up being too small! Yay for companies sending the wrong sizes… Tuesday morning/ afternoon was spent trying to find nice heels to go with my dress. My feet are much larger that the average size in general, but it became clear that I wasn’t going to find anything. I was getting odd looks from store owners. They said that they had my size in the men’s section… Oi vey! I decided that I was going to be a trendsetter and see if I could find men’s combat boots or Converse. I walked passed a Van’s store and found the perfect shoes and they were in my size!

I enjoyed performing and watching other centers perform dances and songs. Our center came in 3rd place for performance (it’s only bragging rights)… I am working on finding a complete video to post. Every center created videos to show in between performances. I wish we could hear the audio, because I know that they were funny. We just couldn’t hear anything. We didn’t place in this part of the competition.

The food was family style with traditional food. I didn’t do my makeup any favors though. 😂

  1. Gorgeous dress. You did a fab job. With alterations. Who knew you were such a trendsetter- vans and formalwear. Love it. Bet your feet were way happier. Sounds like a really fun night. Congrats on 3rd place!! Did you sing by any chance??
